Update: 12/12/2007
My name is T.J. Lervik and I'll be writing this on behalf of Sean as unfortunately this morning we lost him to a better place as he passed away at 2:40am at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS.

On Saturday evening, after a wonderful day getting to visit his family for his grandmother's 80th birthday party, Sean was watching TV with the family back home when after not responding to a question showed signs of struggling to breathe. He was rushed to the Neosho County Hospital immediately and after a few tests were ran it was determined that he had suffered a massive pulmonary embolism (blood clot) in his chest and lungs. This was not directly attributed to his disease, but certainly being in a wheelchair and having less mobility were both factors in suffering from this. They transported him to St. Francis Hospital in Wichita late Saturday evening for better care and further testing.

Over the next few days, we received word that Sean's brain was showing no real signs of activity. He was without oxygen to the brain for a long period of time, we estimate at around 10-20 minutes. Unfortunately, the normal brain can only last for about 3-4 minutes before permanent damage can occur. After reading through his documents around his current state, it was determined Tuesday afternoon to follow his wishes and take him off of any support to allow himself and his body to dictate his next steps. Without any signs of improvement, he passed away comfortably with family in the Hospice room this morning.

Regards,
T.J. Lervik
