Carver Field Update:

As progress continues at the field, I would like to extend a special thanks to all of the individuals and families that have contributed to the project to date:

Galen Gerlach- Dirtwork, Infield Dirt, Equipment Usage, Labor
Knute Strunk- Sign Donations and Revenue Questing
Ron and Jeff Ellis- Block Dugouts and Labor
Coach Dieker, Nelson and Myears- Labor and Metal Shop Contributions
Thrash Family- Shovels, Brooms and other Field Equipment
Kasey McDowell- 4-Wheeler Donation
Mike Parton & Family- Sign Sponsorship and Dugout Roof Construction Assistance
Gary McGuire- Sign Sponsorship
Carson Bank- Sign Sponsorship
Stroot Locker- Sign Sponsorship
Gary Martinez- Sign Sponsorship
Iverson Westfall- Sign Sponsorship
Wildcat Hardware- Sign Sponsorship
Mulvane Learning Center- Sign Sponsorship
Batman Automotive- Sign Sponsorship

We continue to wait information back from the two grants we applied for to help bring restoration to the fence and scoreboard. More information should be available in January concerning these potential funds.

In the upcoming months we will be completing the dugouts with new roofs, benches and storage compartments for bats and helmets. The new infield dirt will be in-place for the winter months and the dugouts are planed to be painted with “MULVANE” and “WILDCATS” added to the back of the dugouts. In the spring, we will be adding the turf to the on-deck circles and coaching boxes and begin construction on the bullpen areas.

Continued Needs:

On each of the dugouts, we have planned for two 8’ x 12’ storage units on the ends for baseball and field equipment storage. The dugouts are being built leaving a 6’ opening for a garage door on each side. Anyone knowing information on or has a good connection to the garage doors would be greatly appreciated.

Again, I can’t express enough gratitude for all of the help and donations the baseball community of Mulvane has donated. Through all of our efforts, we will accomplish restoring the 1956 Carver Facility into a beautiful complex for future generations to enjoy the game of baseball.

The Carver Field revitalization project is well underway.  I’ve posted pictures of the progress to date under the photo gallery.  We have had several patrons donate an immense amount of time and resources to the project and we thank them for their efforts!

Upcoming renovations include new dugouts, new infield dirt, on-deck circles, and coaching boxes.  We are currently applying for two grants to possibly fund a new outfield fence (which is in desperate need of a facelift).

To help fund some of the smaller projects, we are selling outfield fence signs as advertising.  We have 10 signs sold so far and we are hopeful for continual support of the signs.  Three years of advertising is $300 with five years for $500.  The signs are a 4’x4’ home plate and those pictures are coming to the website!

Calling all help!  We have some needs to the project that I would like to ask anyone to help with.  As where the signs will help fund the construction expenses of the smaller projects, we are in desperate need of tools and equipment to help upkeep and maintain the field during season.  One of the biggest needs is something to drag the field with.  If anyone has an old three or four-wheeler that is sitting around collecting dust, we’d love to take it off your hands to drag the infield.  Listed below are additional equipment needs:

·        Rakes (not leaf rakes)
·        Shoves (flat and round nose)
·        Push Brooms (used for dugout cleanout and infield grass edge)
·        Field Rakes (large baseball rakes)
·        String (marking baseline)
·        New pitching rubber
·        New home plate
·        Base anchors
·        White spray paint

As where we can fund some of these expenses through the sign advertising, we will run short on being able to purchase these needs.  Please, if you or you know of anyone that can help, we would greatly appreciate it!  If you have any questions concerning the project or how to help, please contact any of the coaching staff.

Again, thank you for the support to the program as we look to bring another quality field to the community of Mulvane!

If you know any Mulvane Alumni that played College Baseball, please send me their information (grad year, college(s), etc...). Any college pictures would be nice too if available.  Thanks!

To All:

A once dream of the coaching staff has developed into a mounting ambition to revitalize the Carver baseball field and make it the returning home of MHS Baseball.  We currently commit to having Varsity and JV games at home with Wellington, El Dorado and Circle.  Unfortunately, Carver is not at playing condition and we have yet to host a game at the field.

We would like to make this revitalization a MHS baseball/community-led
project.  We have begun tentative phasing options to bring the Carver field back to pristine condition and allow for various fund raising opportunities to help fund the project over a three year period.  Our hope is to be able to host home games during the upcoming seasons on both fields (Complex and Carver).

We ask that anyone that would like to contribute to this project to please
contact myself.  We would like to have a planning meeting to outline
possible options for the field and the phasing of projects and funds needed to implement the program.  Again, the more community input and involvement we have, the better!

We look forward to hearing from all!

Parents:

The players now have their uniforms for the season.  The pants have been a concern with some players receiving pants that are too long in length.  The pant style is a pro-boot cut style which is made to wear long.  If the pants are excessive in length, please feel free to hem them temporarily for the season.  Also make sure any sewing that is done to the uniform can me removed at year's end.  Thank you!

I would like to thank all of the players, parents and community members that have helped make for another great year of Mulvane High School Baseball.  It is truly a blessing to have the opportunity to coach these young men throughout their high school careers and for all of the seniors, your efforts and talents will be missed.  We as a coaching staff look forward to next season and encourage any underclassman to stay active in the game.

A special thanks goes to Charlie Morgan for helping with the book every year and to Kasey McDowell for all of his efforts in maintaining this great baseball website.  One final thanks goes to Coach Sparks for his commitment and dedication to the program over the past three years.  Kevin will be continuing his educational journey at Cessna Elementary next year and we offer him the best of luck!

Thank you again for all that everyone does to make Mulvane a special place to teach, coach and mentor these young men.

For all who are interested, I have added an extra category for all batting stats, Slugging Percentage.

Slugging percentage is calculated using the following formula:
[Singles + (2 * doubles) + (3 * triples) + (4 * Home Runs)] / At Bats

Other Calculated Fields:

On Base Percentage is calculated by the following formula:
(Hits + Walks + Hit By Pitch + Base On Error) / Plate Appearences

Batting Average is calculated by the following formula:
Hits / At Bats

Keep in mind that Plate Appearences is different form At Bats. At Bats does not include walks or hit by pitch.

I am also adding a link to game-by-game stats on the varsity and jv stats pages.

This is a Macromedia Flash Movie, therefore you need Macromedia Flash Player to view it. Most people using IE should already have this installed. If you need to install the player, go to http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer then click "Install Now".

If you are unable to get the flashplayer, you can use the "Sitemap" to view all the contents of this site.
